Summer Theater Camp Manager

 

Position Summary: The Summer Camp Manager (CM) reports directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing Mount Vernon Community Children’s Theatre’s (MVCCT) summer programming.  The CM ensures the high caliber of MVCCT’s camps, while working collaboratively with teaching artists.  This is a part-time position in the spring transitioning to a full-time position from May-August. Camp location is Heritage Presbyterian Church, 8503 Fort Hunt Drive Alexandria VA 22308.

 

Attributes of Competitive Candidates: Competitive candidates will have theater education experience; as well as impeccable attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a gracious approach to customer service. They are energized by responsibility, handling many projects at once and have some experience working with databases. They must appreciate structure and systems and believe they make work easier and better. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Education and Administration: The Camp Manager coordinates the advertising, interviewing, hiring, and training of teaching artists and camp assistants.  Additionally, the CM monitors camp registrations; answering parent questions and developing class rosters.  The CM implements all marketing and procurement of promotional items for camp in cooperation with marketing staff.  They also supervise and plan camp curriculum with the teaching artists. The CM fills in if teachers are absent or late.

 

On-Site Collaboration and Leadership: The Camp Manager oversees teaching artists/assistants and acts as a direct liaison with parents of campers and venue staff. The CM serves as the coordinator for all activities at camp and assists teaching artists with administrative and performance tasks such coordinating scripts / music and crafting small props and costumes. They have responsibility for the well-being of both campers and the venue.

  • You possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • You are organized and creative, able to work under deadlines and on a limited budget

  • You have experience working with online databases and strong general computer skills

  • You are a highly motivated self-starter who enjoys helping organizations grow and develop

Requirements: 

  • Basic First Aid/CPR Certification (Adult/Children/Infant) or ability to obtain certification;

  • Background check

  • COVID vaccination & booster

  • 21 years old +

 

Job Hours: Pre-camp off-site schedule is flexible, primarily remote and averages 5-7 hours per week. During camp, on-site hours are 9:00-4:30 each weekday for 7 weeks from mid-June to mid-August, with no camp the week of July 10.

 

Pay: Starting at $20 hourly depending on experience.
